Sometimes making movies is easy. Just take an inspirational and historically profound true story, film it with some quality actors, and voila, movie. “42” is a perfect example of this. It’s the Jackie Robinson story, which is an easy showcase for the best and worst of humanity. This is not a flashy movie and it takes no chances which ensure it won’t be terrible, but also ensures it won’t be great either. What it is, though, is a perfect movie to rent on DVD.

“42”

Chadwick Boseman plays Jackie Robinson and Harrison Ford plays Branch Rickey, the president of the Brooklyn Dodgers who daringly signed Robinson to be the first African-American to play Major League Baseball. It’s not just a sports movie, but the timing is perfect for giving baseball fans something worthwhile to do during the All-Star break. Check it out.
